Plot:
Fanboy has never had it good, but lately his sophomore year is turning out to be its own special hell. The bullies have made him their favorite target, his best (and only) friend seems headed for the dark side (sports and popularity), and his pregnant mother and the step-fascist are eagerly awaiting the birth of the alien life form known as Fanboy's new little brother or sister.

Fanboy, though, has a secret: a graphic novel he's been working on without telling anyone, a graphic novel that he is convinced will lead to publication, fame, and—most important of all—a way out of the crappy little town he lives in and all the people that make it hell for him.

When Fanboy meets Kyra, a.k.a. Goth Girl, he finds an outrageous, cynical girl who shares his love of comics as well as his hatred for jocks and bullies. Fanboy can't resist someone who actually seems to understand him, and soon he finds himself willing to heed her advice—to ignore or crush anyone who stands in his way.

Thoughts:
Why couldn't I have found  this book when I was at a stage in my life that I was misunderstood and angry. I don't know if it would have made me feel better or would have given me a positive impact or whatever. I think it would have given me something to relate to. Help me understand a little. About what? I can't really remember what I was so confused about when I was younger. I just remember the feeling.

The story was very engaging. You truly experience the friendship/whatever they had between Fanboy and Goth Girl. They're bunch of messed up kids and just when you think that this was heading to "they fall in love and they fix each other the end" story, no. This story tramples your heart first and enforce a feeling that you didn't want when you picked up this book. The feels.

And so the readers are steered to the tragic part. Fanboy and Gothgirl at some point tore each other apart, and just when you've braced yourself for the worse... you are left scratching your head. But not in a bad way. Then ugly-cry ensues.

Boy, that was a lot of effed up emotions in one book. Yup, just like my teenage years.

Rating:
★★★★☆

You can't rely on love. Love will let you down every time. Every. Single. Time.
